Experience economy and essentialism
Tourists are looking for extreme personalization and unique experiences. This could very easily lead to the end of travel agents and the rise of independent agencies. Airbnb claims that their experiences will be a big hit in the coming years.
The travel guilt is real. Minimalism has reinvigorated the otherwise hackneyed adage “less is more.” Travelers are looking less and less for luxury and wealth, instead preferring to spend wisely, to have an impact the world purposefully and positively. Unique experiences that give back to local communities in meaningful ways are in demand, as are niche indigenous properties, adventure vacations and relaxation vacations.
